Doris and her love Michael are in preparation to tie the knot in just a few days. We have the opportunity to highlight their beautiful love story and engagement session on our blog today.
I love their engagement style. You will see them switching up their wardrobe throughout their engagement session. Our love for a natural hair up-do shines bright with Doris flat two-stranded twists going up into single stranded twists to the side.
NaturalHairBride To Be: Doris and Michael Engagement
Doris Version: October 2012, Towson Maryland.
“After a long week of school work, I was down and out because I was also going through some rough time with my current boyfriend. The distance was taking a toll on our relationship. Joyce (friend/Roommate) suggested that we should go to an African bar to get Suya and chill (you know na :-)). I was reluctant because I was not in the mood to socialize. She insisted that it will cheer me up since I love dancing (as a Naija girl you know I cannot turn down Suya and good music lol). We got ready and left for the bar, as usually it was crowded but we found a spot in front of the DJ boot. Fast forward 45mins, here comes this guy staring and walking straight to me. In my mind I am like okay what is he feeling like.
He introduced himself as Tommy (although he swears he told me then that his name was Michael but his nickname is Tommy). He said he saw me two weeks prior when I and my girls came to get Suya. He said he wanted to get to know me. We exchanged contacts, for me I was attracted by his boldness. After weeks of communication we shared our first meal at “The Friday†at Towson. I told him I was in a distance relationship even though I and my boyfriend are taking a break. I was not ready to give up on that relationship. We decided to stay friends and see how things go. Fast forward 5 months later my relationship ended. Tommy wanted us to reevaluate our friendship and take things to the next level. I gave him the round around for a while, putting him in the Friend Zone. It finally dawned on me that wetin i dey find for Sokoto actually dey my Shokoto! Tommy has been there through some of my darkest moment, he never stopped telling me how much he loved me and how much he wanted us to be a couple.
Thinking back, I bless the day I met him because he showed me the true meaning of LOVE. Our story is still unfolding. Grab your popcorn and kool aid because we got a lifetime to go.
To my husband, my soulmate, my best friend, Dim, Obim, Eniye, Oko my words alone cannot express how much I love you.” Doris
It was a nice fall evenings, I and my roommate decided to go to this African bar after work. We got to the place sat down, placed our order for suya, we had started drinking, when I saw these two ladies walk in and I just couldn’t help but notice one of them. I could not stop staring so I decided to study them to understand their level…… LOL. There was a battle going on in my mind on what to do….. Talk to them (actually her) or not. Before I could make up my mind they disappeared!!!(Not the kind you see in Nigerian movie ohh) I was like OMG!!!!! I ran outside but they had driven off……. I was so mad at myself because I could not summon up the courage to go talk to her (but it didn’t stop me from finishing my food and drink though…..LOL).
A couple of weeks later, we were at the same bar. I leaned over to talk to a couple of friends then raised my head to look around and I couldn’t believe my eyes, there they were again standing by the Dj booth. As usual, the battle began in my mind again. I asked myself a question, what are the odds that you see this lady twice in a couple of weeks and at the same spot???? Hmmmmmm …….. At that moment I said to myself….. What do you have to loose, worst case scenario she would turn me down. I summoned all the courage I could muster and walked over to her with a straight face (dey form Don chi chi). I introduced myself to her and told her that I have been watching her for a while now and that I’ll like to get to know you, I couldn’t help but notice you….. She stood out from the crowd in her own unique way. She was surprised and said something about me having the boldness to come talk to her….. (I’m sure she herself had her eyes on me all this while……. Hehehehe….. LOL).
Long story short…… we exchanged phone numbers. She refused to give me her BBM pin saying I’ll have to earn it since her BBM is for strictly close friends and family. I told her I was up to the task.
