Gorgeous curls meet Costa Rica for a beautiful sunlit wedding. Codie is stunning with a flowy, off the shoulder sweetheart neckline wedding gown. What I love most about the bride’s look is her wedding day hair; a goddess updo accentuated with a floral headpiece. Read Codie and Thomas love story and wedding advice to bride-to-be’s like you. Word of advice for the newly engaged on preparation for their wedding day:
The advice I was given was “Remember to eat.†Whether you sneak off to snack or actually sit down during dinner (rather than greeting guests one by one), make time to each so you can enjoy the entire night and not get too cranky or too drunk. Check!
How did you meet?

Tommy and I met at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival when he premiered his film entitled 1982. We met three times in one day, flirting just a teensy bit. By the end of the day, we ran into each other at a party. I was being a little more forward than usual because I felt a little chemistry, so I told him exactly when I was free that week of the festival. He responded, “Are you hitting on me?†I was mortified and took the first opportunity to disappear! Moments later, he found me in the party and we ended up talking until the wee hours of the morning two nights in a row. We were engaged six months later.
Most unforgettable moments of your wedding day:

Our wedding was incredible. Every minute. We selected the location –Tamarindo, Costa Rica – based on the fact that it was ocean side and basically equidistant from everyone we know. Our guests were coming from all over the world, but the US folks were coming from both coasts. Tommy picked the location. We scoped it out about 9 months prior to the wedding and I never could have imagined how beautiful and convenient it would be.

Wedding Date | Wedding Color | Bridesmaid Count | Bridal Gown Style:
We were married on February 21, 2015 and the colors I chose were shades of pink and gold. I don’t consider myself very bride-y. I hadn’t spent my whole life thinking about the day. I just found those shades to be romantic. We kept it simple. Our wedding party consisted of my Maid of Honor and his two best men.
When I went looking for a gown, I just wanted something beach friendly. Something that was light and flattering. I wanted to be able to dance in it and not obsess over my body leading up to our day. My dress was perfect. I was fortunate enough to meet my designer, Tatyana Merenyuk, and she was a dream.
Describe your hairstyle on your wedding day:

I’d describe my wedding day hair as a “Goddess updo.†It’s actually a hairstyle I do a lot that he loved. I rebelled at first. I let him choose between curly and straight and told him he couldn’t make every decision and not to try to weigh in on the style. It’s my day too lol. But ultimately I went with the up do that happened to be his favorite. I love my curls (and we’ve been on quite a journey together), so I was looking forward to going curly for the wedding. I knew it would be hot and my straight hair wouldn’t make it. But I decided to wear it up because it complimented the dress and my clavicle area better. I also really wanted to wear a flower crown and the crown plus the curls would have really overpowered my simple look.
Describe your wedding day hairstyle, continue:Â
I chose a variation of style that I do any regular day, but it took a while to get there. I really wanted to find something special that would make me feel beautiful AND show my curls. I was having trouble finding pictures on the internet because, as we all know, everyone’s curls are different. However, some wonderful girls at work created a Pinterest page for my wedding hair and we all kept adding things to it and it gave me so much inspiration.
I had no interest in the costs of bringing a hair stylist to Costa Rica, so my wedding planner found a stylist who had experience with curly hair but she didn’t speak any English! It was hilarious and awful at first. When we did a trial, the internet wasn’t working so the Pinterest page wouldn’t come up. Two of my friends and I were struggling in broken Spanish to communicate with this woman…she was combing my curls out to create the updo. It was crazy! But I’m so glad we did the trial because we figured how to get it together on the day of.
I washed my hair myself and put my typical products in. I swear by a conditioner called Terax Crema , which I use as a leave in after washing. I let it dry and then the stylist basically put in a thousand bobbi pins to hold it together and place the crown. It was pretty simple.
