Word of advice for the newly engaged on preparation for their wedding day: So many couples stress and go into debt over the costs of items for the wedding. The wedding is only one aspect of the marriage. Be sure to look for less expensive alternatives on etsy, DIY sites and wedding blogs to ensure you do not max out your finances and still have money left over for the house, honeymoon and to buy those extra items you really wanted from your registry.
*How did you meet? Our first encounter is still a little fuzzy. We met during one of Gregory’s community outreach gatherings at his home but did not really interact. It wasn’t until a week or so later that his neighbor who went to the same church as I was giving me a ride home after Bible Study when his car broke down. He called Gregory for help and lo and behold the knight in shining armor came to the rescue… and the rest is history.
*Most unforgettable moments of your wedding day: The food! No seriously, there were so many moments worth repeating. For starters the 4 hour photo shoot around Rome’s most iconic sites. The crowds were so supportive, cheering and clapping for us. Next, there is a brief moment of stillness right before the ceremony begins. Everything is so beautiful, so peaceful that it gives you the opportunity to take the joyous occasion in. That is the moment that it hit me…I’m getting married. That is the moment I had to thank God for this blessing…then I broke down and did the ugly cry. Other great moments were my Poppa officiating the ceremony, the impromptu photoshoot with my girls, the walk to the restaurant for dinner and of course just in case you wanted another moment…it was THE FOOD! I still dream about our tiramisu wedding cake.
*Wedding Details: We had a destination wedding. It wasn’t the original plan. I was going away for my 30th birthday when Gregory came up with the idea to get married on the trip. The goal was for everyone to still be under the impression that we are travelling for my birthday and then on our wedding day we would surprise them with a ceremony, but that’s the beauty of life…things do not always go as planned.
*Location:Â Rome, Italy – directly across from the Colosseum
*Theme: Love’s Eternal Journey (Rome is known as the eternal city)
*Wedding Date: October 11, 2013
*Wedding Colors: The ruins of Rome are so classic we wanted softer earth tones. We went with Tan, Cream & Pastel Blue
*Bridesmaid Count: Three self-appointed bridesmaids
*Bridal Gown Style: Vintage! A strapless, peplum, mermaid gown from David’s Bridal.
*Describe your hairstyle on your wedding day: A total impromptu do! My hair was supposed to be curly and fluffy almost in a blowout. But I was too exhausted to do anything with my two day old curls (using curlformers) and didn’t have enough time the morning of to think of a quick and creative style. So I sprinkled some water on my hair, fluffed it out and made a small pompadour in the front and called it a day! After all marriage is about being able to adapt to any circumstance right…
*Where did you get the style idea? I looked in the bathroom mirror and almost screamed…I looked like the Bride of Frankenstein. Good thing my mother who calls me the chocolate Martha Stewart and my cousin who is a naturalista extraordinaire were there. They helped me put those creative genes to work and the inspirational juices just flowed.
*Hair products used? Water…Water…Water and oh two bobby pins that I think my hair may have eaten during the day.
*How did you learn of Naturalhairbride.com? It was just a normal day in the neighborhood and poof, I get a dope compliment from the staff on Instagram. I was so excited, I immediately went on their website and followed them. NHB: LOVE the logo…and that post about the long sleeve dresses (I died a little)!
