Word of advice for the newly engaged on preparation for their wedding day: Have the wedding that most resonates with you as a couple. Don’t get caught up in Pinterest perfection or making family members happy especially if it’s your money on the line. $3000 can mean so much more than $30,000 if that is what works for you.
How did you meet? We’ve been friends for almost 15 years. We met as teenagers through a mutual friend and dated for a couple months but we weren’t ready for anything serious. Fast forward more than a decade. After both of our first marriages collapsed we reconnected beyond friendship and here we are.
Most unforgettable moments of your wedding day: The ceremony and the food were everything! Our officiant, Tiger Gibson, is Clayton’s fraternity brother, a pastor, and a professional comic. He had everybody cracking up especially when he pointed out we were praying next to the Hennessy. We were also supposed to write vows but in the crazy of the week neither of us made it that far so both of our vows were off the cuff. After 15 years of friendship that included a lot of love with a generous dose of shade.
The food was so amazing! There were these braised greens that everybody is still talking about a month later.  We’re both foodies and restaurant junkies so we were completely impressed by Makan.
Location: Makan Restaraunt in Decatur, GA
Theme: No theme, just great food and drinks with only the people we would actually take out for dinner and drinks. We only had around 25 attendees.
Wedding Date: Friday, September 25, 2015 | Wedding Color:Â Royal Blue, Indigo, Magenta, Turquoise
Bridesmaid Count: 0 | Bridal Gown Style: Column. It was really a Jenny Yoo bridesmaids dress in white.
Describe your hairstyle on your wedding day: I’m a natural hairstylist but I couldn’t wrap my head around a “formal†style. Looking like myself was important as well, so it was just a simple wash and go with a great Amplified Curl Cut and some custom color I did myself (don’t try this at home). The birdcage veil added just enough umph.
Where did you get the style idea? Pure lazyness. I didn’t want my hair (bobby pins, extensions, twists, or braids) getting in the way of the wedding after, after party ;). It also was a rainy, misty, nasty day in Atlanta so if my style got rained on, which it did, it would just look better.
Hair products used? Malibu C Undoo Goo Shampoo, DevaCurl Decadence No Poo, Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner, DevaCurl B’Leave-In curl Boost , and Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic. I did the wash and go 45 min before the portraits so I used my handheld dryer with and without my Deva Blow Dryer with Diffuser to speed up the drying process and not drip red on my white dress.
