Share your proposal story? Aaron proposed on March 21, 2014 on the rooftop of the Georgian Terrance Hotel here in Atlanta, GA. It was actually an all-day affair with him sending me throughout the city in preparation for the actual proposal. He brought a basket to my job (I’m a highschool teacher) with a customized card and a Bible with specific verses highlighted that led me to the next destination at the end of my workday. My principal delivered it, and it led me to three destinations (manicure, massage, and hotel for changing) before I went to the rooftop.

If you’re interested in the (awesome) details, I wrote the story up on howheasked.com http://howheasked.com/letitia-and-aaron)

Wedding Details:

Location: We were married at Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center

Theme: No theme really… if I had to select one, it would be “Just Us”

Wedding Date | Wedding Color | Bridesmaid Count | Bridal Gown Style:

We were married on December 20, 2014 in Buford, GA

Our wedding colors were wisteria (lighter purple), lapis (darker purple), and turquoise (Note: I made the bouquets that we all held by hand!!! I was the most proud of that. The girls had pearl bouquets and mine was a brooch bouquet. I had four girls in my wedding party: two bridesmaids, a maid of honor, and a matron of honor.

My bridal gown was a ruched, partial mermaid style gown with a crystal embellishment on one side. I love that gown, but now that the day has passed, I’m donating it to Brides for America so someone else has the opportunity to make a memory!

When did you and your fiancée meet?

Aaron and I met in November 2011 during our praise team tryouts. I was already on the team, and he was a new addition. We were friends until mid 2013, and he proposed in March of 2014!

How did you wear your hair on your wedding day?

My hairstyle was a faux-flexirod set on stretched hair. I knew I wanted my hair out (no updos!), and this was a way to have it elegant and still me. I had seen the hairstyle on Instagram and Youtube from the girls of NaturalHairDaily. They had done a YouTube tutorial for how to fake a flexirod set without starting from soaking wet hair. I knew it could work with the veil I had chosen without having to wonder would it turn out okay. I started from Curlformer-stretched hair, and twisted it the night before the wedding.

How long have you been natural? I’ve been natural for right at 5 years. My last relaxer was early April of 2010.

Hair products used? I used Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter and Camille Rose Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter Gel, with Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste for the edges!

Everyone asked me if I was going to let someone else handle my hair for the big day, but I always knew that would not happen. I know my hair and I know what I wanted to see. If someone else did it, and it wasn’t exactly as I’d envisioned, I’d be disappointed! (And out of some money :-/)

Word of advice for the newly engaged on preparation for their wedding day:

My words of advice are to pick the parts of the day that are most important to you, and stick to them. Everything else can be done easily or delegated. Also, trying to please a crowd of people will drive you crazy. My fiancé and I decided early on that this day would reflect us, and those who didn’t like parts of it would survive, lol. Also, once the day gets there, let nothing bother you. You did everything you could. We realized while we were waiting to enter the reception that a mix-up of communication left us without beverages at the reception. Aaron pulled out $20 and told someone to run to Chick Fila for tea and lemonade, and then turned around and kissed me. We kept it moving and didn’t panic. He told me that morning, “I don’t care if the venue burns to the ground this morning… we’ll get married outside in the rain with some bomb pictures. It’s me and you.” I love him, lol.
